With egcs-2.91.47 19980712 on i386-unknown-freebsd2.2.6 I got the
following instead:

---- cut here ----
In file included from t.C:1:
geometry.h:860: warning: ANSI C++ forbids initialization of const member
`spanSize'
geometry.h:860: warning: making `spanSize' static
geometry.h:861: warning: ANSI C++ forbids initialization of const member
`boxSize'
geometry.h:861: warning: making `boxSize' static
geometry.h: In method `class mx_point mx_rect::size() const':
geometry.h:1081: ambiguous overload for `mx_point - mx_point'
geometry.h:304: candidates are: mx_point::operator -(const mx_point &)
geometry.h:286:                 operator -(mx_point, mx_point)
geometry.h: At top level:
geometry.h:1459: warning: ANSI C++ forbids initialization of const member
`basicSize'
geometry.h:1459: warning: making `basicSize' static
---- cut here ----

That is, it seems the Internal Compiler Error has been fixed, but it also
seems that the source code in question is quite, hmm, non-optimal.

(With -Wall -W -ansi I got even more warnings...)

To use maxwell I'd recommend getting a current snapshot of egcs
( http://egcs.cygnus.com/ has further information). You also might
want to contact the maxwell authors because of all these warnings.

Hope this helps,
Gerald
