Why duplicate symbols in 1.0.1 and not 1.0 ???

We had had some discussion about this in the past, the basic problem
being the complexity of the native HPUX linker and its relocation
abilities, as I recall.

I think Jeffrey Law said that HPUX 11 is supposed to be ELF, so this
whole problem will go away in a bit.  FYI (maybe Jeff knows this
already) someone on one of the newsgroups said it will only be ELF for
64 bit code, the old format will still be used for 32 bit code.
