egcs-1.0.1 problems on m88k-dg-dgux*5.4R3.10 (DGC Aviion)

     I tried two of the dgux SDE environments
         (TARGET_BINARY_INTERFACE=<SDE environment>):
     
     m88kbcs:
     
        all went well until xgcc was invoked to compile tmp-dum.c (right
                after the link of xgcc). cpp hangs during the compile,
                consuming no resources.
     
     m88kdguxelf:
     
        a. f77 fails to build due to problems specifying the path of xgcc
                (the makefile has xgcc in gcc/f)
        b. various parts of gcc are built forcing the m88kbcs SDE
                environment.
        c. when egcs is built (without G77), the stage2/3 compare fails on 
                all of the binaries. Most of these have differing lengths
                as well.
     
     BTW. GNU make 3.76.1 installs on this system using the m88kdguxelf SDE
     environment (m88kbcs fails to resolve some system entry points).
