What happened to the standard function-to-pointer conversion that was in
the C++ draft standard (Sec. 4.3)? I ran into this same problem when I
tried to port my code to egcs-1.0. I don't mind bypassing the standard
conversion as a matter of style, but my reading of the standard said it
should be allowed.
