egcs 1.1.1 : debug mode support for SGI IRIX5.3

I see.  The problem isn't related with the debugger; I was able to
reproduce the lack of debugging information on mips-sgi-irix5.2, even
though I was using a gdb built for that very platform, and gcc was
configured --with-gnu-as

Does anyone have any idea on how to re-enable IRIX5 debugging support?
