It would help if you wouldn't tell them it was legal. :-)

Perhaps. But, I don't really see why we should implement stuff that
is specifically not allowed by the standard. Where there are
underspecified areas, it's nice to get input about intent, so that,
since we have to pick something, we can pick the right thing.
In this case, you're asking us to implement something that's clearly
disallowed by normative text, whether intentionally or not.
