It is a little hard to understand what bug you are reporting here. When
reporting bugs, please be exact, i.e. state exactly what command you typed
and exactly what error you got.

The problem here is that egcs-1.0.2 fails on a sparc host if you do something
like
	../egcs-1.0.2/configure --target=powerpc-eabi --with-cpu=common
The error is that configure reports
	Unknown cpu used with --with-cpu=common.
because common isn't valid for the sparc host.

	1. The installation instructions tell that it is only supported for
	   RS6000/PowerPC ports.

Unfortunately, various documentation is often out of date.

	2. It seems '--with-cpu=' belongs to 'target' (as opposed to 'build'
	   and 'host').

yes.

If so, then why the option handling code is inside the
loop 'for machine in $build $host $target; do' in 'gcc/configure.in'?

Because that is the obvious place for this code. We need only make sure that
we correctly distinguish between build/host/target when it matters. That
was the bug here, this check was missing.

	3. Is that fixed in latest snapshots/CVS?

Yes, it is.

Jim
