The original code had a "." instead of "&."  I was just trying to clean up
the code for the post to the list.  :)

Sorry.  I neglected to mention the version of egcs I was using.  I was
using egcs-1.0.2.  I will try the latest snapshot since Roger Brown said
that a later snapshot worked for him.
