Internal compiler error compiling mutt 0.84 on Linux

I tried to compile the newly released v0.84 of the mail client "mutt" this
morning on an i586-pc-linux-gnulibc1 system, but egcs had a problem
O2-compiling one of the files:

[babylon] % gcc-970910 -O2 -c rfc1524.c
gcc-970910: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6
[babylon] % gcc-970910 -c rfc1524.c
[babylon] % 

The same thing happens with 970904 egcs version, but gcc 2.7.2.1 has no
problems at all.

I am attaching the file in question to this message, and hope that it will
provide enough information for some kind egcs developer to be able to
reproduce the problem, and perhaps look into and fix it.
