971023 fails to build

Hi,
  I'm trying to build egcs-971023 under Solaris 2.5, with gcc 2.7.2.1.
I did ./configure --prefix=..... in the top level directory and during that
got the error:
./configure: sh error: pwd too long

(but its only 20-30 chars long).

but more seriously when I did make I got:


in  /home/dg/egcs/egcs-971023/libraries/libio/filedoalloc.c
gcc -c -g -O2 -I. -I.  filedoalloc.c
