xgcc failure, 970929 on i586-linux, target mips64-elf

If I do the build (on Sparc-solaris) using egcs as the build compiler,
it still fails in the same place.  I noticed that the problem is in
the multilib for soft-float, which is something I have no use for
anyway, so I tweaked the multilib variables to do only what I need to
work around this problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to chase this bug?  I don't
really know where to start... looking at the source of dwarf2out.c was
singularly uninformative.
