Hi,
  (21164a / RH5.0 / binutils 2.8.1.0.15)

Configure had picked up: alphaev56-unknown-linux-gnu as host

/home/gilbertd/egcs-source/egcs-971225/gcc/xgcc
-B/home/gilbertd/egcs-source/egcs-971225/gcc/ -DIN_GCC -g -O2
-I./include -I. -I. -I./config \
-c ./objc/hash.c -o objc/hash.o
/tmp/cca08064.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/cca08064.s:4: Error: Unknown pseudo-op: `.arch'
make[1]: *** [objc/hash.o] Error 1

[gilbertd@tardis egcs-971225]$ as -v
GNU assembler version 970731 (alpha-unknown-linux-gnu), using BFD version
linux-2.8.1.0.15

Also it put .arch ev6 in the output file - but mine is a 21164a
not a 21264 (I'm ev56??)

Am I supposed to have a newer binutils? If so which one? From where?

Dave

P.S. If I try to build cross to ARM it enables the HAIFA scheduler; is
this an artifact of it being Alpha hosted or its this separate?
