Although this would be  better, it can't be  done (at least not out of
the box), as GNU configure doesn't work  well (if at all) with several
packages spread  over  various directories and   subdirectories, which
Cygnus's configure can.  As far as I  know, all GNU packages which use
GNU  autoconf/configure are mostly  quite simple ones  - correct me if
I'm wrong.
