Speaking as a user of gfortran, I would also like to offer my $0.02 in 
support of including the patch in the 4.9 compiler.  It is a very useful 
capability!  And arguably it is really just a bug fix to the partial 
implementation that is already present.  If you wait for 4.10, 
experience has shown that it will add another year or more to make it 
into various distributions.

Compilers already supporting the feature include: Cray, IBM, Intel, NAG, 
and PGI.
