Dear Tobias, deal all,

As you might have gathered from my silence, my daytime activities have
taken over completely and are making it very difficult to help out
with gfortran.

Such time as I have will be devoted to getting this patch right by
fixing the issues that you have pointed out.  I cannot promise days
but will try to make it in a few weeks.
