gfortran and Xcode

I have a MacBook Pro with OS 10.9 (Mavericks). I recently downloaded Xcode 5.0.2 and gfortran (GCC).

I would like to use fortran in the Xcode development environment with its full screen editor and "run" capability (makefile?).

I have written, compiled, and run simple codes with gfortran without using Xcode. Then I tried to run fortran from within Xcode but have not succeeded. The Xcode editor recognizes fortran syntax but I can't compile, link, and run.

Can this be done? Can you lead me to some help?

I have taken advantage of "GNU Fortran: Using the compiler" (http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GFortranUsage), which was very helpful.

Thanks for any assistance.
