Committed: trunk merged into fortran-exp branch

I have commited a merge that brings fortran-exp up to date with trunk at rev 164903.

I plan to use the fortran-exp branch for IO related patches.  These will be FE 
format checking and ABI cleanup stuff.  With concurrence from the fortran team, 
I would like to do some unilateral commits to the branch until we are ready to 
merge back to trunk.  At merge back time I will submit complete patches for 
review and approval.

Is this strategy OK?
