I have seen no new insights since this mail from Janne (at least not on 
the issue of whether we should allow dangling symlinks being opened as 
'NEW').

Shall I close the bug report (PR 41387) as 'WONTFIX' ?

Does it have enough pointers to this discussion (to prevent this issue 
to be raised again) ?
