preprocessor token "#" doesn't work in gfortran as in gcc, intel-fortran or sun-fortran compiler

I can assure you they don't mind.  Their representatives almost always 
ask me at J3/Fortran meetings what part of Fortran 2003 we support with 
the latest gfortran release.

Obviously, they do not want to fall behind.
