I was taking a break from the -fwhole-file.  There are serious issues
with it that I need a few, clear days to deal with.  SInce those are
few and far between, at present, I thought that I would get on with
something easier.  I have been doing loads of reading about the
-fwhole-file issues and will have fresh start in the next days.

If I can apply this patch to trunk and the development branch, I can
see a first attempt at the new array descriptor in ~1 week.  I'll
follow it with an updated -fwhole-file.
