libg2c & GAMIT

I don't remember the context to which you refer. I note that the package 
you apparently refer was updated as recently as a year ago. Their FAQ 
states clearly that either libf2c or libg2c can be used, but not a stock 
version of either. It's mighty strange, and, to me, unacceptable for 
academic software, that they would not support a compiler which was 
current at the time (gfortran or some other).  You would still be better 
off discarding objects which depend on libg2c and rebuilding all Fortran 
sources with gfortran, if those sources are available.  If their Fortran 
usage is not standard enough to work with gfortran, or if they make direct 
calls from C to a library which is not intended for such use, that too 
seems unacceptable.  More so, as I am a graduate of one of the 
institutions named.
