-static-libgfortran ineffective on darwin9 as well?

Hopefully, this is the correct forum for this observation, if not, I  
apologize:

I've tested on ppc-apple-darwin9 (4.3.1-prerelease) and the same  
phenomenon applies:

-static-libgfortran is accepted as a flag (without giving the 'not  
supported on this system' error)

... but the executable produced links to the dynamic library  
(libgfortran.3.dylib).
