I downloaded gcc-4.2 from http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GFortranBinaries, got
the file gcc-4.2-x86_64.tar.gz.  It's certainly possible I screwed something
up, but just gunziped it and tared it basically.  

Here's what gfortran -v gives me:
