All three of the patches are in the one or two lines category, it would not have 
mattered at all.

Please open the PR.  This appears to be target specific and I can not "see" a 
problem.  We have been calling truncate in several other places and not seen a 
problem.

I will be studying your other posts with the simulation runs and see if I can 
make anything from it.  Can you revert that portion of the patch?  Or I can send 
you a simplified reversion patch to try and confirm at least the point of 
breakage, though I think you have narrowed it down.

I am going to need your help to try some things to see what happens.
