iso_varying_string regression needs high priority

Dear Jerry,

I have posted a patch, ChangeLogs and testcase on Bugzilla.  You were
quite correct about the revision that caused the problem.  I forgot
all about optional arguments.  Fortunately the fix is trivial and
obvious.

In spite of  Tobias' efforts to give me access to a machine, I do not
even have ssh rights on the laptop I have right now.  In consequence,
I can neither regtest nor commit the patch - possibly until January
3rd.  Could you do the honours, please?  Both trunk and 4.3 will have
to be patched; right away, I would suggest.
