Do you know about the (unofficial) TDM gcc builds? It also features a
(very brief) howto on how the releases are built:

I had a shot at building a Linux -> mingw32 cross-compiler earlier
this week and failed utterly; mingw is a pretty arcane world of its
own...

Talking of mingw: I feel that we[1] should take action to have the
MinGW guys finally endorse the GCC 4 release officially; it's
something about too many regressions, but maybe there is room for
discussion. The current state of affairs is appalling, since they only
officially support 3.4.5, which means that most bits of info related
to release 4 (how long has is been around? 2 years?) is unofficial,
mostly outdated, incomplete, often not working and so on; see my
remark on building a cross-compiler.
