Finalization revived

Hi Paul,

as promised I've attached the full patch for the one described below. 
It is updated to current SVN trunk and builds, but I've not yet had the 
opportunity to re-check my test-cases.  Although I bet they should still 
work to the extend they are supposed to work, which is mostly but not 
everything.  You know, those two little issues with temporaries... ;)

The split-off first half submitted earlier for review should be more or 
less this patch without the resolve.c changes and other very small 
changes needed to make finalization really happen.  You can look at the 
test-cases herein to see what the patch/finalization in general is 
supposed to do.
