Let's suppose you had already changed match.c(gfc_match_allocate).
I would need to deal with your modification when I rewrite a large
portion of it.  So there is extra work for me.

Who is going to reviewer your patches?  That's extra work for someone.

How many lines of code are you modifying/adding/deleting?  A ball park
figure will do.
