real*8 declarations for variables using g77

In my previous post I have forgotten a CAVEAT:
COMPLEX*16==COMPLEX(8) and I think any reference in
a code to an explicit physical representation is
an extension and is not standard conforming
(the standard does its worst to be harware agnostic).
