char_*shift failures on powerpc-apple-darwin8.5.0

This was due to Jerry's patch for PR33317. It has been reverted and
now the failures disappeared:

As a side note, Jerry proposed a new patch that is working, but for
a segfault for the testcase with -m64 on Intel Darwin8/9.
