I briefly looked at the patch.  If there are any problems when I
merge trunk into the FE branch, it appears fairly straight forward
to fix.  If I can't fix the FE branch, I know your email address. :)

I was wondering what the benefit of this patch is?  Is this 
simply an attempt to bring gfortran's frontend into conformance
with other frontends?
