Daniel, this looks quite promising.  I'm not sure when
I'll have time to give a detailed review (hopefully,
someone can step) because I'm crunched for time before
leaving town for an experiment.

One thing that might be helpful to others is to put
the description on how to use this framework on the
gfortran wiki.  In fact, I thought I had accidentally
deleted your email. 

One other thing, if you haven't pinged Janis, she may
be able to give some useful feedback.
