You right. I usually try to keep the status there up-to-date, but by
definition that is an asynchronous effort.

I have some ideas, and starting to hack something up today. Would it
work for you always prefix your announcement (and only those) with the
string "GCC X.Y" and/or manually run a short script every time you do
so?
If so, I'll keep working on this.
