octave and gfortran

   Has anyone built the recent octave 2.9.x releases (currently
at 2.9.18) against the gfortran compiler from either gcc 4.2.2
or gcc 4.3? I find on i386-apple-darwin9 that there are 7 failures
in the make check. Another user claims that if you build against
f2c from fort77 instead that there are no failures. Are there
open regressions against building octave with gfortran?
