[Patch, fortran] PR31879 , PR31197 , PR31258 & PR32703 - various character problems

Guinea pig testing of the original patch on Darwin:

fixes the announced PR's, but PR32703 which still gives an ICE.
regtest fine on 32 bit mode.

I had a problem with the patch:
