Sigh. Ok, I figured out my problem. It seems gfortran 4.3 is working fine. My problem was that I didn't RTFWB - where it notes that GMP and MPFR is needed. I didn't have those packages installed. With that done, things are working ok now. And yes, I now see the same messages that Steve Kargl is seeing. Sorry about the false alarm. W.
