You could try whether the openSUSE RPMs from

ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse/i586/

(gmp-4.2.1-4.i586.rpm  gmp-devel-4.2.1-4.i586.rpm
mpfr-2.2.0-16.i586.rpm  mpfr-devel-2.2.0-16.i586.rpm)
work.

A glance at the RPM suggests that they might. (For AMD64 use ../x86_64,
for PPC use ../ppc or ../ppc64.)

They contain a rather new mpfr:
* Mon Oct 09 2006 - rguenther(at) suse.de
- Apply bugfixes from upstream, up to patch 16.
