In principle I agree that dictionaries/encyclopaedias  are better than
google, but sometimes (see above) even the big ones don't find commonly?
used words. (The OED has in printed form 20 volumes, 21,830 pages and
615,164 words, which is seemingly not enough!)
In addition, using "define:" in Google prefers to give real definitions;
for significand it finds (only):

- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Significand
which is not too bad.

I now submitted my second typo patch (see attachment) with the following
additional changes:
- Use "noncontiguous" instead of "discontiguous" (or the wrong
"discontinuous")
- Change -Wimplicit-interface as suggested by Bernhard Fischer
