I was hoping to hear from Toon :-)

I have a nagging feeling that he has found some stretch of code that 
does something other than visiting what is to be found in 
trans-intrinsic.c.  I tried various version of use of ALL and ANY and 
could not produce anything other than a simple loop.  Toon does your bit 
of code trigger the dependency analysis somehow?; eg. by using ALL or 
ANY within an expression that is assigned to one of the variables in the 
ALL or ANY argument expressions?

Other than that, I cannot see how a temporary would be produced.
