[PATCH] Require GMP 4.2 and MPFR 2.2

     Could someone clarify the following issue with the gmp 4.2.1 and
mpfr 2.2.0 transition concerning gfortran? I have been told that 
gfortran does build against gmp 4.2.1 and mpfr 2.2.0 without the
proposed patch. Is this the expected behavior and should the testsuite
be able to pass all of its tests with such a build. My understanding
was that the proposed patch was required to insure that mpfr was
explicitly linked into gfortran since gmp no longer builds against mpfr.
Thanks in advance for any clarifications on how broken gfortran would
be when built against gmp 4.2.1 without the patch.
