Perhaps.  But, I'll note that Paul has disclosed more than 
once that his time of fixing gfortran will be coming to an
end soon.  I'd rather that he spend his remaining effort on
unfixed bugs.  Paul isn't going to complete disappear.  His
available time is simply going to be quite tiny time.

Jack, have you ever thought of submitting Copyright Assignment
paperwork, and then stepping up to the plate to do these backport
requests?
