How to efectively debug Fortran 90 programs?

There are a number of issues associated with gdb and gfortran which are 
posted in Bugzilla.  These seem to need some help/attention from the gdb 
developers.  Would you please be so kind as to ask them nicely to have a 
look at some of these PRs?
