OK, I will wait.  I have made the changes using Janne's suggestion of 
(gfc_offset) on my trunk here.  It reg tested fine. I am re-bootstrapping now 
and will test again.  You will notice several other places in transfer.c that 
already do this with gfc_offset for the exact situation and those are not giving 
warnings on Jacks machine.

Ready to commit with appropriate ChangeLog as soon as the word is given. Patch 
attached.  You will notice one place where we are going the other way around and 
I cast bytes left to  size_t.
