I'm lost here, because I've got this tested on both i686-linux (both
FC5 and Debian testing) and x86_64-linux (Fedora Core 3 on AMD64
Opteron), and it's working fine. I retested it just now, and it's
still working fine (with binaries from
http://quatramaran.ens.fr/~coudert/gfortran/gfortran-linux.tar.gz and
http://quatramaran.ens.fr/~coudert/gfortran/gfortran-x86_64-linux.tar.gz).

Paul, maybe you could try from these binaries, to exclude a build
problem from the list of possibilities.

I think we really should first understand why you see such failures
while I do not. There is no fundamental reason that it doesn't work
properly, at least on common systems.
