svn question - is ~/svn/gcc/trunk for tests?

Before I do something stupid, can somebody confirm for me that 
svn+ssh://pault@gcc.gnu.org/svn/gcc/trunk is the try-out-svn branch and 
that before very long I will see a gcc branch?  In other words, is it OK 
to commit something experimental to branch, in order to try resolving 
conflicts and to revert? ... or is it another branch that I should be 
using for trials?
