[Patch, libgfortran] READ from the terminal is broken - 2nd patch - urgent review, please.

I believe that this is what you intended

Bootstrapped, regtested and NIST tested on FC3/i686.  OK by you this time?

I will take the point of view that since this is a partial removal of a 
patch,  on obtaining Janne's OK, I will commit this tonight.  If anybody 
objects, please let me know asap.
