Solaris build of gfortran (gcc 4.0.0)

Thanks for your replies!  I'll try some of these out and let you know 
the results.  GNU ld and as are "problematic" on Solaris.  I've *never* 
gotten them to build and perform well.

The GMP I'm using is the latest.  I may go back one or two versions and 
see if THAT helps.  That said, the mpfr library that comes with GMP is 
NOT the latest.  I'm in the process of rebuilding GMP (v4.1.4) w/o MPFR 
and doing a separate build of MPFR using the latest source code.

I'll also try it without posix threads and see what that does for me.
