You could add a "devnull" effective target.
This could then either have a hardcoded list of targets, or [preferably] some 
code to test for proper operation of /dev/null.

Also note that the proper triplet for linux is *-*-linux*. Your triplet will 
miss things like arm-none-linux-gnueabi.
