Gfortran binary file format

Previously submitted a bug concerning the inability of gfortran to read 
an unformatted output file created by g77, and
reviewer considered  this  a low priority requirement and I agree.  
Subsequently discovered during testing that gfortran
will not read an unformatted file created by c++ or c in gcc-4.0. This 
problem did not occur with g77, and makes the
gfortran binary file format suspicious. Is this also some thing that is 
considered a low priority?

Would appreciate some comments.
