Hmmm, I am not sure it is a useful extension, I would rank it together
with REAL DO variables; IMHO these only make sense in a Fortran77
compatibility mode. Yes, theoretically there is a crossover in pure F90
mode, because real DO variables were obsolescent there, but there are
tons of things much higher on my wish list (top is TR15581).
